PTE Academic Online test bookings started January 2022
In December Pearson, the world’s leading learning company announced that PTE Academic Online has opened for bookings tests has started from January 11, 2022.
More than 100 universities across the globe have already added PTE Academic Online to their list of recognized tests for students to prove their English proficiency.
These include:
- Macquarie University and RMIT, Australia
- University of Manitoba, Winnipeg and Humber College, Toronto, Canada
- University of Oxford and University of York, UK
- University of Canterbury, New Zealand
- Arizona State University, University of Alabama, and University of South California, USA
You can prove your English skills from your home. PTE Academic Online is a new, at-home version of PTE Academic, for when you can’t reach a test center.With PTE Academic Online, you can take your test at home, in an office, or wherever you have a quiet, private space. PTE Academic Online uses the exact same test content, scoring and format as PTE Academic in a test center. It is a new online proctored option for people who prefer to sit the test remotely, in their own place.
Freya Thomas Monk, Senior Vice President, Person Tests of English, Pearson, said: “It is great to see so many leading universities worldwide already accepting PTE Academic Online, with the list growing by the week.
“This acceptance shows that both colleges and candidates want the option of a secure and trusted test which can be taken at home, in case travel to a test center is not possible, or global events such as Covid mean widespread test center closures, for example.”
what you need to know:
- You can sit PTE Academic Online in just two hours from the comfort of your own home, or in another convenient location. All you need is a good internet connection, a computer with a webcam, a wired headset – and some peace and quiet!
- Just like the regular PTE Academic, the online test has the same 20 question types and 52 questions.
Test takers are asked to check the PTE Academic Online recognition list before booking the test.
PTE Academic Online is delivered through Pearson VUE’s online proctoring solution, OnVUE. With just a simple check-in process, utilizing highly secure ID verification tools, face-matching technology, and a live proctor, candidates can test without leaving the home. Test-takers must have access to a reliable internet connection, and a quiet location to take the test.
Who is PTE Academic Online for?
- You can take PTE Academic Online if you need to prove your level of English to study a course in English abroad.
- We recommend our new online test if traveling to a local test center isn’t feasible.

Recently, due to COVID restrictions, traveling has been a challenge for people all over the world. Even taking PTE Academic in a local test center has sometimes been impossible. Many people have had to change their plans or postpone their education for this reason.

Note: It is important to note that while the test is identical in format to PTE Academic taken in a test center, it is not currently valid for visa or migration purposes. Also, institutions that accept PTE Academic do not automatically accept PTE Academic Online, so check whether your preferred institution accepts PTE Academic Online. In those cases, you must take PTE Academic in an approved test center.
